Talk Together Project

Talk Together is a research project between Informing Choices NI and Ulster University. It is located in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area and funded by The Ideas Fund.

Loss and Bereavement

The project was conducted over a one year period, 2021/22, and looked at how loss and bereavement impact on people with learning disabilities, difficulties and autistic people. We hoped to increase knowledge of how people with a learning disability, difficulty and autistic people feel about loss and bereavement and look at what is needed to give better support. We also worked with family members, support staff and teachers to get a better understanding of the challenges faced around loss and bereavement and how these can be overcome.

You can read the Talk Together Project report here.

Awareness Training

Following on from the report, The Ideas Fund have again funded us to design and deliver a new training programme – Talk Together Loss and Bereavement Awareness Training.

This training is suitable for any professional who supports autistic people or people with a learning disability in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area. The training was developed in response to one of the key recommendations made by participants within the Talk Together Project report.
